Hello, my friend ~
My name is
Carl Eugene Young and I am 69 years YOUNG. My father's
side of the family tree allowed me to be the grandson of one the last
blacksmith-farriers of Loudonville, Ohio. Another grandfather on
my
mother's side was from a long line of railroad employees. My
deceased
step-father retired with over 48 yrs of R.R. service.
Thus, these
family members influenced my interest in blacksmithing mingled with
railroad lore.
Knifemaking became my forte' about 5 years ago after my own retirement as a business machine repairman of 33 years. Hence, my endeavers have been focused on forging, assembling, buying, selling, trading, and collecting railroad spike knives. I've even been known to give some away (to relatives, of course)! My personal collection exceeds 75 pieces from other knife makers across the country, and sales at local knife and gun shows have been very good to me. Lately, I have been enjoying my membership in the Western Reserve Cutlery Association (Ohio's oldest knife collectors club, founded in 1977) Lastly, I have been on "both sides of the table" so I appreciate a good product at a fair price. I strive to do unto others as I would have them to do unto me. More details are to follow on the tracks thru my site, so enjoy it and let's hear from you..... and keep it sharp! Carl |
